If you look back in History it has only been the last one hundred years or so that the Horse isn’t one of most important things in all of our lives. Five thousand years ago man’s interest in this wonderful animal was created to help him in the production of food crops and to utilize his amazing strength and patience to move heavy loads. Historian’s say that about thirty five hundred years ago someone got the great idea to ride one. Wow, look what has happened since then! The Horse Industry has blossomed into an immense industry with all the successes that anyone could imagine and with that, some incredible difficulties and challenges that plague our business every day, “Safety Issues.”
My point to this little history lesson is that previous to the invention of the car, almost everyone used to own, use for work, transportation and pleasure some form of a horse, mule or burro. The methods of training, effective and safe riding, the process of developing a “Work Ethic” in an equine animal were known and shared by all.
My take on this is quite different than most people’s view about “The Old Days” but my opinion still stands. The “Old Methods” worked! The Lipizzaner Stallions at the Spanish Riding School were not trained five hundred years ago by a method you could purchase on the internet in the form of a DVD. The United States Calvary horses were not “Whispered into being brave and courageous in their quest for getting home in one piece. Most people would like you to believe that horses used to be trained by dumb people who beat them constantly and treated them unfairly in every aspect of their lives. If that were true we all would still be living east of the Mississippi River wondering how to get to Arizona! This Country grew because of and with the aid of “Good Using Horses.”
People used to go to “War” horseback! Now if you get a colt to go down the road when a Butterfly comes out of a bush and he doesn’t spook, he deserves a medal and a carrot. What about mortar fire, the sound of a gun, helicopter, cement truck, the ever present plastic bag blowing in the breeze or the coke machine when the can drops into the bin?
My focus for the last twenty years has been the production and equally important the maintenance of “Good Using Horses.” “Horses you could go to War On.”
My point of all this is as I get older I personally feel the need to slow down on the TV Stuff and the Traveling and spend more time at home, in Scottsdale doing what got me where I am. That is “Putting Good People on Great Horses” and teaching them the methods of how to keep their horses the way they were when they bought them.
Equine Solutions is the place to learn just that. We offer services in all aspects of the livestock industry, not just horses. The following pages will give you a taste and some information on just what those aspects are and how you can get involved.
My Mission statement is simple:
